Our text- and image guidelines

Here are our guidelines for text and images on our web page. If you have any new products or updating of products, see information on this page regarding how to submit new products and changes.

Images

General:

  • Desired pixel format for images on activities and other bookable products: 1200*800.
  • If it's not an activity product nor a bookable product, the ideal pixel format for the main image is 1440*560.
  • Maximum image size: 300kb per image.
  • There are many free tools for cropping and compressing images if you don’t have Photoshop or similar software. For example, Figma and Tinypng. We can also assist with cropping and compression.
  • We recommend keeping to a maximum of 3-5 images per product.
  • Remember to inform us if anyone needs photo credits.
  • Be aware of GDPR and privacy when using images with identifiable people. It is your responsibility as a supplier/product owner to ensure that the images you use comply with current regulations.
  • You/your company are responsible for ensuring the rights to the image are cleared for use.
  • Visit Tromsø-Region AS cannot be held responsible for images used by you as a partner/company that do not comply with rights and current legislation.
  • We always aim for responsible marketing of the destination and experiences. Therefore, the images cannot promote potentially risky situations. Examples include people sitting on the edge of a cliff during a hike, ski touring without a helmet, boat trips without a life jacket/floatation suit, etc.
  • According to the online booking agreement, you automatically grant Visit Tromsø-Region permission to use your company’s images for the general marketing of Tromsø as a destination. We are free to crop images to suitable formats. When your images are used, we will credit them with the company’s and photographer’s name. In this way, your company will gain increased visibility if we use your images.
  • VTR has editorial rights and can edit/adjust text and images.

If you have your own Citybreak license:

  • Images are transferred from your iTicket or Easy Access account. Although it is technically possible to upload larger images into the system, we strongly encourage you to compress images to a maximum of 300kb per image. This is the generally recommended maximum size for any website.
  • Large images degrade load time, which in turn negatively affects SEO. Therefore, it is as much in your interest as ours to reduce the image size.
  • If you wish to operate with one set of images/sizes on your website versus ours, you can send cropped and compressed images to us, and we will add them. We can also assist with cropping/compression.

Text

General:

  • We need both Norwegian and English text.
  • Write an exclusive text for our website. Don't copy and paste from your own website as this is not good for SEO (the texts/sites will be competing with eachother).
  • Provide an honest and accurate description of what guests can expect to experience. Don’t promise anything you cannot deliver.
  • The product title must be short and concise. Information about the number of guests, what is included in the tour, etc., should not be in the title but in the product description.
  • The introduction text must not exceed 260 characters.
  • Avoid using capital letters and exclamation marks – it sounds like shouting when reading.
  • Do not use abbreviations; write the words out in full. For example, “Included” (not “incl.”), “metres” (not “m”).
  • All text must be of good quality and free of grammatical errors. Products with poor text will not be published.
  • Date format examples: Norwegian: 10. oktober – 15. desember / English: 10th October – 15th December
  • Visit Tromsø-Region is the owner and web editor of Visittromso.no and reserves the right to edit text and images on products to be published in our channels.

Extra for the English version:

  • We prefer the text in British English. There are several AI programs for quality assurance/proofreading: CoPilot, ChatGPT, Gemini, and others. Note! Any “facts” generated by an AI system must always be verified.
  • Time format in the English version: Write both 12-hour and 24-hour clock as follows: 06:00pm (18:00). If it is, for example, 08:30 in the morning, where both clock versions are the same, it is sufficient to write 08:30 (am).
