Embark on an Arctic adventure and meet the majestic King of the Forest: The Wild Moose! The Bardufoss region is home to one of the largest populations of Europe's biggest land animals, and your guide will lead you on an exciting safari in search of these incredible creatures. Lunch is included.

General information

Your journey begins at Rundhaug Gjestegård, a historic wooden hotel nestled at the edge of the wilderness. Before setting out, your guide will give a safety briefing, and provide fascinating insights into the local culture, moose behavior, and the tradition of moose hunting. We'll drive to prime viewing spots where you're most likely to encounter these gentle giants while ensuring we keep a respectful distance to avoid disturbing them, especially in parts of the season where they are extra vulnerable.

During the safari, you’ll explore the forest to track moose prints and visit an authentic Hunter's Hut. We hike on snowshoes or on foot, depending on the snow conditions. Weather permitting, we’ll enjoy lunch outdoors, surrounded by nature. If you're fortunate, you may also spot other Arctic wildlife along the way. Please note that moose sightings cannot be guaranteed as these are wild animals, but this adds to the thrill of the experience!

The Bardufoss region's calm, clear winter weather creates ideal conditions for moose safaris. The area boasts a large moose population, and winter in the beautiful Målselv Valley often brings countless encounters with these fascinating giants.

About Up in the Arctic

Welcome to "Up in the Arctic", where unforgettable experiences meet the pristine beauty of the Arctic wilderness. We specialize in experiential tourism that immerses you in the heart of nature, embracing the culture, stories, and traditions of the Arctic region.

Our tours are more than just trips - they are journeys into the soul of the Arctic. From witnessing the mesmerizing Northern Lights to exploring vast, unspoiled landscapes, every adventure is crafted with a deep respect for the environment and local communities. Our commitment to sustainability ensures that the Arctic's natural wonders remain untouched for generations to come.

Join us to experience the Arctic like never before - through the eyes of those who call it home. Let us be your guide to an adventure filled with awe-inspiring beauty, rich cultural insights, and a profound connection to nature.

Our experiences require the participant to be in a normal physical condition. We move on foot in summertime and on snowshoes in wintertime. Our hikes are neither demanding nor long, however, we stay outdoors and in the wilderness for most of the adventure. We require all participants to be dressed for Arctic weather conditions. Suitable for ages 12 and up.

We serve all meals outdoors by the campfire during our experiences, if the weather allows it. It is important for us to communicate local food culture, and we include local traditions and local food where we can. We serve vegetarian and vegan options and can facilitate most allergies.
