About us

Tromsø International Film Festival is a popular film festival for our audience, and an important meeting point for the Norwegian and international film industry.
The Festival screens challenging quality films for a local, national and international audience. The festival has had an incredible growth since it first commenced in 1991.

The festival lasts for an entire week and features screenings at venues such as Aurora Kino Fokus, Verdensteatret – Cinemateket in Tromsø, Tromsø Kulturhus, Studenthuset Driv, Hålogaland Teater, and at our very own Winter cinema (outdoors) located in Stortorget. Additionally, the city's cafés and restaurants are filled with film enthusiasts, creating an atmosphere you can truly feel throughout Tromsø.

Language:
As an international film festival, our general rule is to screen films in their original language with English subtitles. There are a few exceptions each year, and these are clearly marked in our film descriptions online.

Winter Cinema:
Tromsø International Film Festival is set in the dark polar nights, which give's TIFF the unique possibility to screen films outdoor. The outdoor cinema is located at the main square in the heart of Tromsø. The program includes a selection of shorts and documentaries from the Films from the North program, along with special screenings for children and various other events. The Winter Cinema is completely free and is an important step towards our goal of creating an open and inclusive film festival for everyone.

Tickets:
Ticket sales for the festival start on the Monday of the week prior to the festival. You can purchase single tickets or a ticket card with multiple tickets at a discounted price. Seating is open, and while many choose to watch films with friends, it's also common to create your own individual film schedule and attend screenings alone.
