Urban experiences meet raw Arctic nature
When should you come to Tromsø?
Experience the diversity of our region’s seasons, each offering a unique array of activities and weather conditions, like the Northern Lights and the Midnight Sun. But when should you and your team arrive?
During autumn, Tromsø undergoes a breathtaking transformation into a landscape of golden vibrant hues. This season holds a special charm in the Tromsø region. The crisp Arctic sky gradually darkens, yet daylight persists, and you might both experience mesmerizing sunsets and the Northern Lights. You already have a chance at seeing the Northern Lights during the end of August, even before the snow arrives. Explore our orange tinted mountains on a hike, pick berries and mushrooms or embark on a leisurely boat trip around the city by day, followed by a culinary experience at one of our many bars or restaurants at night.
As autumn gives way to winter, the sun barely makes an appearance, and during the winter you won’t see the sun at all. It’s the season for exciting outdoor adventures such as dog sledding, snowmobiling and cross-country skiing. Escape the cold within the walls of one of our museums, like Polaria or the Northern Norway Art Museum, or enjoy a refreshing swim at Tromsøbadet.
The displays of the Northern Lights continue until April, while spring brings a blend of winter and long, sunny days. It’s the ideal time for ski excursions on one of our region’s majestic mountains, while anticipating the arrival of the Midnight sun in late May, and the onset of summer. With the midnight sun casting its radiant glow until late July, you should arrive to Tromsø during the summer season to enjoy spectacular views along the fjords or atop one of our scenic mountain peaks. The possibilities for exploration and adventure are endless!
