This tour is conducted by Tromsø Villmarkssenter. Love speed and excitement? Join up with your own team of racing huskies to learn to dogsled.

General information

You get your own sled to drive along with a friend or another guest, and you will switch in the middle of the track. You can enjoy the arctic coastal nature with fantastic view over Tromsø, surrounded with white covered mountains and long fjords.

One of our experienced guides will teach you the basics of dog sledding and then we set off into the wilderness! You will share the sled with another guest; one driving, one riding it as the passenger and at the halfway point you will switch. In total you will be on the sled for about 45 minutes depending on the weather conditions.

Professional guides are leading the group in their own sleds. After a trip out in the Norwegian winter a meal of Bidos, prepared with reindeer meat, broth and vegetables are just what the body needs.

We serve the meal in our camp around the fire (vegetarian meal available on request).

We have a minimum age of 16 years to drive the sled, this is for yours and the dog's safety. If you are concerned at all please contact us or book the Ride tour and one of our experienced mushers will drive the sled for you.

Duration of the dog sled drive is approximately 45 minutes.

Latest meeting time and place (all are AM/morning): : 07:15, 08:15, 09:15, 10:15 outside of Radisson Blu Hotel

About Tromsø Villmarkssenter

30 years ago, the renowned dog sled racer Tove Sørensen opened her home to guests from all over the world. Since then, she and her family have dedicated their life to educating visitors about Alaskan huskies, dog sledding and the arctic nature through sustainable outdoor activities.

We strive to be inclusive hosts in every regard - everybody who shares our passion is welcome! You can request vegetarian and vegan alternatives for all our programs and most of our activities are great for the whole family. Let your little ones play with our little ones in the puppy training program or take them on a sledding adventure chauffeured safely by one of our experienced guides. Infants between 0-2 are always free of charge and we offer discounts for children!

Our facilities are also wheelchair accessible and especially the dog sledding ride program is well suited for people with disabilities. However, our walkways can be a bit difficult to maneuver, especially when covered in snow. So make sure to have a helper with you when you come visit! The standard shuttle service requires you to enter the bus on your own, but we can arrange for specialized transportation upon request. Please contact us if you are planning to visit, we would love to tailor-make a smooth and barrier free experience for you!

On our programs you will not only experience everything we love about our home, but discover your very own inner connection to the Arctic. Whether you let us teach you how to drive a sled or let a four-legged hiking buddy show you their favorite trails – Tromsø Villmarkssenter is your home in the wilderness!
