Our center is located 25 minutes away from Tromsø and the city lights, under a dark night sky which is perfect for watching the Aurora. Upon arrival in our campsite, we will provide you with rain clothes and boots to keep you warm and dry. Then we will give you a tour of our dog yard, where you will get to meet and cuddle our huskies and their puppies! From the puppy cages to the seniors, we will visit each station of a sled dog’s life and tell you all about our favourite sport. Cuddling is highly encouraged!
The next morning it is time for your husky activity. Depending on which day you are visiting, you can choose between a husky hike or puppy training.
Husky hike: Monday - Tuesday
Aurora camp and husky hike can be booked here.
In the morning after a delicious breakfast, we get our four-legged hiking buddies and set out into the wilderness. Our Alaskan huskies are strong and trained to pull - you will not have to hold the leash for the whole duration of the trek but be prepared for some exercise! Usually, we give 1 Husky for 2-3 guests. You will still develop a close bond with “your” Husky, especially since we need your help with training them for the next sledding season!
Back the campsite, Bacalao, a traditional Norwegian fish stew will be served and after saying goodbye to the dogs, we will bring you back to Tromsø.
Important information for the Husky hike:
All participants must be able to trek uneven terrain while handling a dog. Not suitable for kids under 6 years.
Puppy training: Tuesday - Wednesday, Thursday - Friday and Friday - Saturday
Aurora camp and puppy training can be booked here.
In the morning after a delicious breakfast, our puppies will be eagerly awaiting their training session. We will take them out into the wilderness around our center and then we get to work! Help us teach them sledding commands and how to work as a team with their human handlers.

About Tromsø Villmarkssenter
30 years ago, the renowned dog sled racer Tove Sørensen opened her home to guests from all over the world. Since then, she and her family have dedicated their life to educating visitors about Alaskan huskies, dog sledding and the arctic nature through sustainable outdoor activities.
We strive to be inclusive hosts in every regard - everybody who shares our passion is welcome! You can request vegetarian and vegan alternatives for all our programs and most of our activities are great for the whole family. Let your little ones play with our little ones in the puppy training program or take them on a sledding adventure chauffeured safely by one of our experienced guides. Infants between 0-2 are always free of charge and we offer discounts for children!
Our facilities are also wheelchair accessible and especially the dog sledding ride program is well suited for people with disabilities. However, our walkways can be a bit difficult to maneuver, especially when covered in snow. So make sure to have a helper with you when you come visit! The standard shuttle service requires you to enter the bus on your own, but we can arrange for specialized transportation upon request. Please contact us if you are planning to visit, we would love to tailor-make a smooth and barrier free experience for you!
On our programs you will not only experience everything we love about our home, but discover your very own inner connection to the Arctic. Whether you let us teach you how to drive a sled or let a four-legged hiking buddy show you their favorite trails – Tromsø Villmarkssenter is your home in the wilderness!
