Enjoy a round-trip boat journey from Tromsø to Øksfjord, with a full stop for whale watching along the way. There will also be a short visit to the small fishing village of Øksfjord. On the return trip to Tromsø, we’ll stop to observe the Northern Lights in peace from the sea on days when conditions are just right.
General information
This tour is conducted by Cruise Service. During the journey, you’ll have the chance to encounter majestic humpback whales and orcas in their natural habitat. We go to areas where these graceful giants hunt for herring, with our knowledgeable guides on board sharing fascinating information about the whales. While we can’t guarantee whale sightings on every trip, the route between Tromsø and Øksfjord offers a very high chance of encountering whales.
An experience along the Northern Norwegian coastline with whale safari, and if we're extra lucky, a Northern Lights safari.
Comfortable, Fast, and Spacious Boats
Our beautiful catamarans offer a spacious lounge with large panoramic windows, providing fantastic views of the Northern Norwegian coastline as it glides past. Stay warm and comfortable inside while taking in the scenery, or head out to the deck for an even closer encounter with nature. The deck is a perfect platform to breathe in the fresh sea air and admire the whales, Northern Lights, and breathtaking views. Remember to bring warm clothing! The catamarans are stable and safe, allowing you to relax and fully enjoy the journey.
Whale Safari
Early in the trip, when the light is at its best, we’ll stop for an unforgettable whale-watching experience. Get ready to see the ocean’s most impressive creatures up close. From elegant humpback whales to powerful orcas, these majestic animals glide through the water with incredible beauty, often breaking the surface with astonishing power. Our guides on board share fascinating facts about the whales’ behavior, migration patterns, and their role in the local ecosystem.
Øksfjord: A Hidden Gem
Halfway through the journey, we’ll make a short stop in Øksfjord, a charming fishing village surrounded by dramatic Arctic landscapes. Here, you can experience authentic coastal life in Northern Norway, with small fishing boats and picturesque docks that reflect the local fishing traditions. Øksfjord is also known for the Øksfjord Glacier, the only glacier on mainland Europe that calves directly into the sea. This stop provides a perfect opportunity to stretch your legs, breathe in the fresh Arctic air, and capture stunning photos of this beautiful landscape before we continue our journey.
Northern Lights
If conditions are right, we’ll stop to admire the magical Northern Lights, or Aurora Borealis. When the weather and atmospheric conditions align, this is a spectacular sight. Being out at sea offers a unique view of the colorful lights dancing across the sky and reflecting on the water—a truly unforgettable experience. In the quiet Arctic night, this is one of the most extraordinary ways to experience the Northern Lights.
