Historical walk at Rundhaug Gjestegård

Join us for interesting guiding at the historic hotel Rundhaug Gjestegård in Målselv! Enjoy the unique atmosphere and nostalgic surroundings of the 117-year-old hotel.

General information

This tour is conducted by Visit Bardufoss. Hear the exciting story of founder Amanda Sandmo, who built a hotel far to the north, off the beaten track. About what happened during the war, about the salmon fishermen who came to catch the big salmon and about the many famous people who have visited the guesthouse over the years. Among these HM. Crown Prince Haakon, General Montgomery, the author Wilbur Smith, and many more. During the experience, we stop by Amanda's room at the hotel, where we sip a schnapps in Amanda's spirit.

During the experience, we also get to know the local community, nature and history in the Bardufoss region. The lush Målselvdalen stretches from the Swedish border in the south-east and Malangen in the north-west, and divides Troms county in two. Over 200 years ago, the valley was populated by settlers who came from Østerdalen and Gudbrandsdalen to find land and happiness in lush Målselv. Listen to the story of conflicts and friendships between the settlers and the Sami who already lived in the valley. Europe's last wilderness can be found here, elk, bear, wolf and lynx are still found in the valley. Listen to the history of Målselva and Norway's national waterfall Målselvfossen.

After the adventure, a guide will offer you a choose between a short snowshoe trip, Snowman Fun or just relaxation in cosy surroundings. In any case, you get an insight into the local culture in the Bardufoss region and the daily life of the sled dogs.
